Former Electoral Commission Chair Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has urged the judiciary to penalize individuals who file baseless election petitions, warning that such cases can harm the reputations of the courts and the Electoral Commission (EC).
Speaking at the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Conference, he highlighted that frivolous petitions waste time and create unnecessary suspicion among supporters of political candidates, regardless of the outcome.
He also advised political parties to thoroughly assess election pink sheets, as these are crucial documents for reconstructing election results.
Dr. Afari-Gyan further cautioned against political influence over the judiciary, stressing that state capture is detrimental to democracy.
