Dr Duffour’s police invitation smacks of political interference - Yaw Gyan

Former National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan claims the invitation from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the founder of UniBank, Dr. Kwabena Duffour is clothed with politics.

According to him, the SIT's invitation to the owner of UniBank is difficult to comprehend when the same issue for which the police have invited him to assist in investigations, is still before the court.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Yaw Boateng Gyan maintained there has been an arbitration from the court with regards to his involvement in the banking crisis; thus, he took Bank of Ghana to court but nobody knows the outcome of the arbitration and yet the police are still inviting him for questioning.

He intimated that Dr. Kwabena Duffour ceased to operate as a banker in UniBank when the late President Atta Mills appointed him as the Finance Minister in 2009; reiterating that the latter has since not been functioning at the bank till now.

He wondered why the Special Investigation Team is rather not inviting the Directors in-charge at UniBank, but bothering the owner who has since 2009 relinquished his authority to other people to operate the bank.

“What is going on in this country, let’s all open our eyes and speak the truth for people to know that it is not everything that we have to politicize. For me, when I carefully analyze the whole thing about Dr. Kwabena Duffour, I smell politics in it a bit and that may create a lot of issues in this country,” he claimed.

He added that “with Beige and UT Bank, the owners are still part of management but Dr. Kwabena Duffour is not part of the management of UniBank”.

He, therefore, charged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to allow the court to come out with its ruling before any further action can be taken against Dr. Kwabena Duffour as the case is still before the court.
