EC disqualifies GFP candidate over illegalities

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has disqualified Philip Appiah Kubi, the Ghana Freedom Party’s (GFP) replacement presidential candidate, due to issues with his nomination form.

EC Chair Jean Mensa announced the decision at a press conference on November 12, explaining that while some errors were corrected, others breached electoral regulations and could not be accepted.

Kubi’s disqualification follows the sudden passing of GFP founder and original candidate Akua Donkor, who died on October 15.

The EC had granted the GFP a 10-day extension to find a replacement for the December 2024 election.

However, critical issues in Kubi's documentation ultimately led to his disqualification, reinforcing the EC’s commitment to electoral integrity.

Meanwhile, the EC has announced it will keep the original ballot order for the 2024 presidential election despite the disqualification.
