EOCO probe: Nduom being victimized – PPP

The Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) indication that it was going to investigate how the presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom is funding his campaigns is incomprehensible, the party has said.

“I just don’t get it,” Paa Kow Ackon, the communications director of the PPP said in an interview with Nii Arday Clegg Snr on Morning Starr, Monday, adding, “I simply do not understand what is going on here.”

EOCO, according to the Daily Graphic, sent letters to the standard bearers of the PPP and the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Nduom and Dr. Hassan Ayariga respectively, giving them up to Wednesday, October 26, to explain the source of funding of aspects of their political campaigns.

EOCO, in the said letter, is demanding Dr. Nduom to explain to it the source of the over GHc1.7million he used to pay for his filing fees and of his parliamentary candidates.

Again, EOCO, stated in the letter to Ayariga that it was interested in his claims that he expended over $6 million to procure vehicles among others. Ayariga made this revelation on Starr Chat on Starr103.5FM recently.

Reacting to the issue, Mr. Ackon observed that the move by EOCO was nothing but an attempt by some “invincible forces to hide behind state institutions to victimise” Dr. Nduom.

“This is sad and it is shameful,” he said, adding that “I’m getting sick and tired of this deliberate attempt to frustrate people.”

The PPP, Mr. Ackon indicated will fight what he described as “selective injustice” and that the “tyranny” under President John Mahama “will be pulled down.”

He alleged President Mahama authorized the EOCO to probe Dr. Nduom because he “is a threat to his [president Mahama’s] presidential ambition.”

Ghanaians, he warned, must be worried about what is happening as unnecessary “fear and panic” is being created in the country a little over 40 days to the December 7 polls.

“They must be very, very careful. Ghana is not for them and we will not sit down for people to take the laws into their own hands, arrogate onto themselves certain powers and decide the way things must go in this country. No way,” bellowed Mr. Ackon.
