Ghanaians will face higher electricity and water costs starting next month, as announced by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) in its second quarterly review for 2024.
Residential electricity rates will increase by 5.84%, with lifeline consumers seeing a 3.45% rise. Industrial electricity tariffs will go up by 4.92%. Water rates will also increase by 5.16% across all customer classes.
These changes, effective from July 1 to September 30, 2024, reflect adjustments based on factors like exchange rates, inflation, the electricity generation mix, and fuel costs.
The PURC also considered industry competitiveness and the general living conditions of Ghanaians.
