FWSC asks PSWU to rescind strike plans for negotiation

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has responded to the Public Services Workers’ Union's (PSWU) planned strike, set for October 21, 2024, by acknowledging the union's concerns but urging them to reconsider.

The FWSC emphasized that negotiations over institution-specific allowances for PSWU's 46 member organizations are ongoing and that a strike would violate the Labour Act and agreed-upon Rules of Engagement.

The FWSC clarified that it has been actively engaging with the PSWU since September 19, 2024, when the union submitted its proposal, and subsequent meetings were held to discuss cost implications.

The Commission stressed that proceeding with a strike would hinder negotiations and called for continued dialogue to reach a resolution.
