Albert Dwumfuor, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), emphasized that fact-checking is critical in the upcoming 2024 general elections to counter disinformation.
Addressing journalists at a fact-checking workshop organized by the Spanish Embassy, Dwumfuor urged the media to verify all information carefully to avoid spreading fake news influenced by political bias.
He also highlighted the need for journalist safety, emphasizing the role of the media in informing the public for sound electoral decisions.
Dwumfuor thanked the Spanish Embassy, Casa Africa, Maldita.ES, and Newtral for supporting the training, which he believes will help strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
The two-day event was aimed at preparing journalists for accurate election reporting.
