Approximately 750 Liberian refugees from Gomoa Buduburam, Central Region, have been repatriated to Liberia.
Transported in 20 buses with their belongings, they are the first group of 4,300 refugees scheduled to return by June.
The repatriation follows the demolition of their structures by local authorities. The Buduburam camp, established by the UNHCR in 1990, housed refugees from Liberia’s civil wars and Sierra Leone’s civil war.
At a pre-departure ceremony, Liberia's Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs, Jeddi Armah, emphasized the government’s support for the refugees' return, urging them to rebuild their lives in Liberia. Armah also thanked Ghana for its hospitality.
