The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has announced the 2024 closed season for fishing, set from July 1 to July 31 for artisanal and inshore fleets, and until August 31 for industrial fleets.
Sector Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson emphasized strict enforcement and monitoring, with support from security agencies and fisher folks.
The Ministry, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization and the Norwegian government, is conducting research on marine resources to address depleting fish stocks.
The Norwegian vessel RV Fridtjof Nansen is currently undertaking a transboundary survey to gather data on current fish stocks.
