2019-10-06Former Minister of Mines & Energy dies at 83
The late Fred Ohene-Kena
The former Minister of Mines & Energy under President Jerry John Rawlings’s government, Mr Fred Ohene-Kena, has passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019, at the age of 83.
The professional mining engineer died in Accra after a prolonged illness with his family at his side, confirmed a close relative.

Read full articlefor Mines & Energy from 1997 until 1999. He has also served Ghana in various capacities including PNDC Under Secretary for Lands and Natural Resources; PNDC Eastern Regional secretary; Ghana’s Ambassador to Czech Republic; Slovakia; Poland and Hungary.
He later served on the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) and the Judicial Council of Ghana under the Atta Mills administration; Chairman of the Minerals Commission and in 2010, he was appointed to the AngloGold Ashanti Board of Directors as a Non-Executive member.
The late Fred Ohene-Kena was survived by a wife and six children. The final funeral rites are yet to be announced.
