Four new cases of Swine Flu reported at Kumasi Academy

Four new cases of the Swine flu or H1N1 disease have been reported at the Kumasi Academy.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, who made this known, said the four are part of nineteen students who are on admission in three different hospitals and are responding to treatment.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Dr. Tenkorang assured the public that containment measures have proved effective and emotional support will be given to the students to ensure total recovery.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Health, at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Badu Sarkodie says parents whose wards are in Kumasi Academy, KUMACA, and the general public must have confidence in systems and measures put in place to prevent the spread of the H1N1 flu.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Dr. Sarkodie said the Ministry with other partners in the health sector are working assiduously to prevent further spread of the epidemic to other areas.

He debunked reports that the case reported at the Koforidua Secondary Technical School over the weekend is H1N1 or Swine Flu.

“Laboratory investigations so far showed signs of meningitis,” he clarified.
