Eduwatch Executive Director, Kofi Asare, has voiced concerns over the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) proposal to extend the Free SHS program to private schools, arguing that it could overwhelm Ghana’s already-stretched education system.
In an interview on Joy News, Asare noted that the double-track system—implemented to accommodate the high number of SHS students—suffers from infrastructure and demand-supply issues, with many schools either overcrowded or under-enrolled.
He stressed that the focus should be on expanding current infrastructure and addressing financial challenges before considering private school inclusion, which would increase government spending without solving existing problems.
