The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have denied allegations that they threatened to take over control of the country if the 2024 elections turn violent.
These claims were linked to Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG).
In a press release, GAF clarified that they never announced any intention to stage a coup and emphasized their role in supporting the Ghana Police Service upon request, not in overthrowing the government.
They urged civil society and the media to avoid heightening political tension and affirmed their commitment to maintaining peace during the upcoming elections.
