Seventeen Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs) in Greater Accra have received over GHS 8 million to enhance drainage infrastructure under the GARID Project.
This follows GH¢10.9 million disbursed in 2022 and 2023 for similar purposes. The funds are aimed at improving drainage and waste management along the Odaw River.
GARID Project Coordinator, Dr. Ohene Sarfoh, noted that future grants would be performance-based, with the current disbursement ranging between GH¢5.6 million and GH¢7.2 million per Assembly.
The project, funded by the World Bank, seeks to mitigate flooding and enhance infrastructure in flood-prone areas.
