Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) has raised alarm over the diversion of funds intended for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GetFund), which has significantly hindered the development of educational infrastructure in Ghana.
According to EduWatch's latest report, from 2017 to 2024, only GH¢5.2 billion of the GH¢9.8 billion allocated to GetFund was actually released, with the remaining GH¢4.6 billion diverted to other uses.
This diversion, especially since 2019, has left many schools struggling with inadequate facilities.
EduWatch is urging the government to uncap GetFund and ensure that all allocated resources are used to address critical infrastructure challenges in the education sector.
