The Ghana Institute of Journalism has been closed down temporarily following a protest by students over authorities’ decision to prevent them from writing the end of semester exams due to incomplete payment of fees.

One of the students who spoke to GhanaWeb noted that his inability to pay his fees was due to the delay of the Student Loan Trust Fund in paying his fees.
He indicated that he has been on the student loan scheme for the past three years and they have always been consistent.
He insisted that he can’t be held responsible for failing to pay his fees on time since it was beyond him.
“I’m actually on the student loan and couldn’t pay on time, so I think they failed their mandate because their core value was to pay for students on time. I am being nullified from writing exams because their failure to pay. I have been to the school authorities several times to consider me to write because I have been on this loan for three years, so if this time they are delaying you need to understand because it’s a governmental issue, but they denied me the opportunity to write,” he said.
Some students also said that even though they made the full payment, they were not allowed to write for failing to register online.
They said this was due to the lack of communication by the school’s authority to the students.
All efforts to speak to the school authorities proved futile as the police won’t allow any one inside the school.
