Prof. Titus Beyuo, former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), has expressed concerns over the GMA's decision not to join the nationwide strike on October 10, organized by labour groups to demand action against illegal mining (galamsey).

He criticized the decision-making process, which reportedly involved individual phone calls instead of formal council meetings.

While the GMA expressed solidarity with the cause, Beyuo emphasized that the health impacts of galamsey directly affect the association's mission.

He suggested that the GMA could have taken a more balanced approach, such as showing solidarity through symbolic actions rather than withdrawing entirely from the strike.
