GNAT stages walkout on Deputy Education Minister over failed ‘1 Teacher, 1 Laptop’ promise

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) staged a walkout on Deputy Education Minister Prof. Kingsley Nyarko and their leadership at their annual council meeting in Kumasi, protesting unmet promises to provide laptops.

In 2021, the government deducted 30% of teachers’ salaries for the "one teacher, one laptop" project, yet over 50,000 teachers haven't received their laptops.

Discontent was evident as council members chanted "No laptop, no council meeting!" and disrupted the meeting. The absence of laptops hinders teaching, especially in remote areas.

GNAT issued a one-week ultimatum for the government to distribute the remaining laptops.
