GSA to shut down cement factories using inferior materials

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) is set to shut down cement manufacturing firms producing low-quality cement, with three already closed.

The move aims to protect consumers and enforce the Ghana Standards Authority Act 2022. Despite 14 licensed factories operating, some use poor materials, which is unacceptable, says Prof. Alex Dodoo, GSA Director General.

The authority seeks transparency in pricing, while the Cement Manufacturers Association calls for dialogue to stabilize prices, citing reluctance to increase prices due to various factors like clinker, energy, and exchange rates.
