The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Central Region is urging the government to ban small-scale mining (galamsey), citing severe water contamination.

GWCL's Public Relations Officer, Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, said the company struggles to purify water due to high pollution levels, calling for immediate action to stop mining near rivers.

His comments support the Ghana Medical Association’s call for President Akufo-Addo to impose a complete ban on small-scale mining to protect public health and restore clean water sources like the River Pra, which has become heavily polluted.
