President Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered more military personnel to join "Operation Halt" to stop illegal mining (galamsey) around water bodies and forest reserves.
This decision comes after Organised Labour threatened a nationwide strike if the government didn’t act.
The operation will now include naval boats to enforce a complete ban on all mining activities in affected areas.
Following this announcement, Organised Labour has suspended its planned strike, citing the government's commitment to tackle the galamsey menace and protect the environment.
