The Media Coalition Against Galamsey has criticized the Ghanaian government’s lack of urgency in combating illegal mining.
Kenneth Ashigbey, the coalition's convener, expressed frustration over the environmental destruction caused by galamsey, equating it to terrorism.
He urged Organised Labour to ignore President Akufo-Addo’s appeal to postpone their October 10 protest, arguing that the government’s delay benefits those profiting from the devastation.
Ashigbey called for immediate action and regular updates, similar to COVID-19 measures, to address the severe impact on water bodies and forest reserves.
