The Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) has expressed concern over illegal mining (galamsey), stating that it hinders their ability to baptize new converts due to polluted water bodies.

Pastor Edward Nyarkoh, Executive Secretary of the Church’s Northern Ghana Union, noted that they previously conducted baptisms in rivers, but now had to build their own facility due to contamination.

This development comes amidst growing calls for a ban on all forms of mining, with Organised Labour planning a strike on October 10 to urge the government to take action against the galamsey menace.
