The strike aims to pressure the government to ban all forms of mining in forest reserves and take stronger action against illegal mining, known as galamsey.

After a crucial meeting, labour leaders stated that the government's proposals did not adequately meet their demands.

Key requests include declaring a state of emergency, revoking L.I. 2462, and deploying military forces to combat illegal mining in forest areas and water bodies.
