Galamsey: UTAG-UG votes against NEC recommendation to suspend strike

The University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has voted to continue its strike, rejecting the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) recommendation to suspend it.

The strike, initiated on October 10, protests the government’s lack of action against illegal mining, which has harmed river bodies and forests.

Despite the NEC’s directive on October 24 for UTAG members to end the strike by October 29 and resume classes on November 1, a recent vote saw 290 members favoring the strike’s continuation, while 226 opted to end it, disrupting academic activities nationwide.
