Galamsey happening behind police station in Anyinam – Minerals Commission

Illegal small-scale mining, or 'galamsey,' is occurring behind the police station in Anyinam, Atiwa East District, with no police action taken despite multiple reports.

Martin Ayisi, Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission, raised this concern during a Parliamentary session, questioning the lack of police intervention.

While he opposes a complete ban on new mining licenses, stating that illegal mining would continue regardless, he refuted claims of the commission being understaffed, asserting adequate resources are available for enforcement.

Committee Chairman Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa argued that these issues support the need for a suspension of small-scale mining licenses.
