The Ghana AIDS Commission is concerned about the rise in HIV infections due to low condom use among sexually active individuals.
The country recorded 17,000 new HIV cases and 12,000 related deaths in 2023.
Dr. Stephen Ayisi Addo, Programmes Manager of the National AIDS Control Programme, highlighted that gay sex significantly contributed to the increase in infections due to its high-risk nature and bisexual behavior, which spreads HIV to the wider community.
He emphasized the need for enhanced education on condom use and HIV prevention, noting the complacency among the youth who underestimate the disease's impact.
