Prof. Kwaku Asare, a Democracy & Development Fellow at CDD-Ghana, is calling for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo after she submitted five names to President Akufo-Addo for Supreme Court nominations, citing heavy workloads and pending cases.
Despite support from Parliament's Majority and government officials, Prof. Asare criticizes her actions as unconstitutional and potentially harmful to justice delivery.
He expressed his concerns on Upfront with Raymond Acquah, emphasizing that such actions compromise the integrity of the judicial appointment process.
The nominated judges include Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, currently presiding over the Ato Forson ambulance trial.
