Gertrude Torkonoo must be removed as Chief Justice – Prof. Kwaku Asare

Prof. Kwaku Asare, a Democracy & Development Fellow at CDD-Ghana, is calling for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo after she recommended five names to President Akufo-Addo for Supreme Court nominations.

Citing the heavy workload and pending cases as reasons, Torkornoo's actions, though supported by the parliamentary majority and government officials, have been heavily criticized.

Prof. Asare argues that her conduct violates the constitution and could negatively impact justice delivery. He expressed regret over his call for her removal but emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional provisions.

The recommended judges include Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe and four others.
