The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has issued an alert following an outbreak of Dengue Fever in the Eastern Region.
The outbreak was identified after the national surveillance system detected unusual clinical malaria cases that did not respond to standard antimalarial treatments.
These cases, managed as acute febrile illnesses, were confirmed as Dengue Fever by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), with nine cases confirmed.
In response, a team of entomologists and epidemiologists is conducting a detailed investigation.
GHS has directed all regional health directors and hospital executives to alert health workers and enhance Dengue Fever surveillance, ensuring laboratory confirmation for all clinical malaria cases.
