The Ghana Police Service has held its annual Memorial Day, dedicated to celebrate Police officers who died through adversarial actions while performing their lawful duties.
The Memorial was held at the National Police Training School at Tesano in Accra on Thursday December 21, 2017.
It was a sober moment when families, friends, dignitaries, and sympathizers gathered at the venue
Ten Police Officers were honoured during the ceremony.
In addition to paying tributes to these fallen heroes, their names were engraved on the Wall of Honour and the Roll of Honour.
The Wall of Honour is dedicated to officers who perished through combative action whereas the Roll of Honour is a book in which names of officers who although died in the course of performing their duties, did not die through adversarial action are inscribed.
The five Officers, with their names inscribed on the Wall of Honour, in order of seniority, were; D/Cpl. Francis Amenyo Aballo, G/Cpl. Robert Kumi Ackah, G/L/Cpl. Daniel Owusu, G/L/Cpl. Michael Kporyi, and G/Const. Kwakuvi Hukporti.
G/L/Cpl. Jakper Biitleeb Yamdauk, PW/L/Cpl. Esther Kagya Junior, G/Const. Daniel Kwesi Appiah, G/Const. Courage Agbetsiafa, and G/L/Cpl. Frank Degbey were the Officers with their names in the Roll of Honour, in order of seniority.
The Police Memorial Day was first celebrated in 2014 where serving Police officers who lost their lives while undertaking lawful duties within Ghana, on peace keeping mission or on international assignment are recognized for their services to the country.
The flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony was attended by Vice President, Dr Mahumadu Bawumia, Inspector-General of Police, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, as well as representatives of the bereaved families.
