Ghana needs more lawyers to ensure justice for all – Former Law School SRC President

Gertrude Emefa Donkor, a newly qualified lawyer and former SRC President of the Ghana School of Law, has raised concerns about Ghana's shortage of lawyers.

Speaking on Channel One TV, she highlighted the country's lawyer-to-population ratio of 1 lawyer per 5,000 citizens, far below the ideal 1 to 250 ratio.

Donkor emphasized the need for more lawyers, as many citizens, particularly those in prison, lack adequate legal representation.

She stressed the importance of legal advice in preventing unnecessary court cases and ensuring justice. Emefa was among the 777 newly inducted lawyers in Ghana on October 11, 2024.
