Ghana’s Constitution has many defects, it needs a transformation – Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has called for a transformation of Ghana's 1992 Constitution, highlighting its flaws and the excessive concentration of power in the executive branch.

Speaking at the University of Ghana Alumni Lecture, he referenced Afrobarometer's 2024 report, which shows increasing disillusionment with democracy among Ghanaian youth.

Bagbin acknowledged that while the constitution has provided political stability, it has hindered overall development.

He urged for a comprehensive overhaul to address its defects, emphasizing that the time for reform has long passed and that the focus should now be on fostering development.
