Ghana’s coronavirus case count increases to 6,964

Ghana has recorded 156 new coronavirus cases, bringing the national tally to 6,964.

The figure stood 6,808, however during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) announced new cases in 5 out of the 16 regions in the country.

Read full articleKumah Aboagye, said during the press briefing that Western Region, which has recorded 57 new cases, was fast becoming the new hotspot for the disease.

"The total count 6,964 out of which 2,097 have recovered...this is just a tip a tip of the iceberg because as we ramp up testing of those who have recovered, we will get more," Dr Aboagye said.

Fifteen people, he said, are battling with severe conditions of the disease but the number of deaths from the disease still stands at 32.

He revealed further that none of the 15 severe cases is on a ventilator.

Eleven of the severe cases are being treated in hospitals in Accra, three in Kumasi and one in Ho, the GHS boss said.



"We have about 800 people in isolation across the country, more than half of that is in Accra - at the Pentecost Convention Centre - and the rest are in various isolation centres in Ashanti Regions and some of them are in hotels in the rest of the regions," he added.
