Ghana has signed a historic treaty at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Diplomatic Conference, aimed at protecting genetic resources and traditional knowledge.

After 12 days of negotiations, the treaty recognizes Indigenous peoples' contributions to biodiversity and seeks to prevent erroneous patent grants related to genetic resources and traditional knowledge.

Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, signed on behalf of Ghana under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership.

The Office of the Attorney General thanked experts and representatives, including Prof. Hans Adu Dapaah, Prof. Paul Kuruk, Amb. Emmanuel Antwi, and Mrs. Audrey Neequaye, for their efforts in the negotiations.
