Ghana yet to complete requirements for reopening of embassy in Mexico - Ambassador Ventura

There are no specific timelines for the reopening of the Ghanaian Embassy in Mexico. As stated by Ambassador Julian Ventura, Ghana will have to honour her path by meeting all the necessary administrative processes that relate to opening an embassy or diplomatic mission in a foreign country.

Ambassador Julian Ventura paid a courtesy call on Mr Charles Owiredu to relay information from the Foreign Minister of Mexico on how to build a stronger bilateral relation.

The Mexican Ambassador in an interview added that their country is looking forward to having a Ghanaian Embassy;

“…the commitment is there …. we are going to be as helpful as possible once Ghana and it’s government finish the various administrative processes that relate to opening a diplomatic mission abroad. We are ready to go hit the ground running as soon as the embassy is established, we are talking about the near term”

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Kennedy Osei-Nyarko after a closed-door meeting with the Mexican Ambassador noted that government is working with Mexico to improve the yields of some crops in the country such as corn. There is a need to adopt scientific techniques in farming to promote high yield of farm produce since our economy is solely based on agriculture.

Background

Ghana was the first African country to have an embassy in Mexico, which is now closed. We currently maintain 53 embassies and high commissions abroad as well as 44 consulates.

Mexico, on the other hand, established an embassy in Accra from 1965 to 1980 which was reopened in 2014 and has been in operation till date.

Purpose of an Embassy includes the protection of citizens in a foreign country. It also strengthens the friendly relationship between countries as well as a point of contact for two countries by assisting travellers who might be visiting the host nation.
