Ghanaians in Edmonton donate $20,000 to COVID-19 Fund

The Ghana Friendship Association of Edmonton in Canada has donated $20, 000 to Ghana’s COVID-19 Trust Fund.

The donation is to aid in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Keli Tamaklo, the President of the Ghana friendship Association of Edmonton, said Ghanaians in the area made this donation as part of their contribution to complement government’s efforts in fighting the prevailing pandemic.

“COVID 19 is real and the fight for struggling and vulnerable people should involve all of us,” Mr Tamaklo said.

He said, “We believe this donation will help government’s efforts in combating the pandemic".

Mr Ayikoi Otoo, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, commended the group for their efforts and urged other Ghanaian Associations in Canada to emulate their example.

“The fight against the pandemic is not sole responsibility of the government”, he said.

“We can only defeat this pandemic when we all come together with a common goal. This donation will go a long way to fight COVID 19,” Mr Otoo said.

He said the High Commission has deposited the amount into the COVID-19 Fund account in Ghana.

He said, “The people of Ghana will never forget what Ghanaians in Edmonton have done in Ghana’s fight against COVID-19”.

Madam Evelyn Obuobi, Vice President of the Ghana Friendship Association of Edmonton, commended government’s efforts in fighting the pandemic given the little resources available.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his regular COVID-19 address to Ghanaians on March 27, launched Ghana’s COVID-19 Fund to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable”.

The Ghana Friendship Association of Edmonton is made up of Ghanaians in and around the metropolitan city of Edmonton in the province of Alberta Canada.
