Ghanaians lie and cheat about everything – Osei-Wusu laments

The 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei-Owusu says Ghanaians must first fix their character if they want to see things changed in the country.

According to him, the average Ghanaian will lie about everything and has no interest of the nation at heart.

“I’ll rather say we should fix our character. We cheat freely with the everyday thing that affects people. People take money freely for the work they’ve been employed to do. I think we should fix our character, all of us. If we fix our character, we’re fixing the country,” he told Francis Abban on Morning Starr Thursday.

The Bekwai lawmaker further noted the country must begin to focus attention on character formation at the basic level of education.

“In this country, we should focus on building characters if we want to move forward. The biggest challenge we have in this country is dishonesty. Look at the Auditor- General’s report, how many of the names mentioned are politicians? Yet we turn around and blame the politician. The difference between us the developed world is that as much as possible, people will lie but when you’re caught, you’re punished.”

The comment comes in the wake of the campaign by pressure group #FIXTHECOUNTRY. The movement has been pushing for improvement in social services and infrastructure by government. The movement made up mainly of the youth on social media embarked on a demonstration in the capital of Ghana Accra to press home their demands.
