Ben Boakye, Executive Director of the Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP), has revealed that the government ignored ACEP's warnings about the unitisation of oil fields involving ENI Ghana, Vitol, and Springfield.
In a July 2021 letter to President Akufo-Addo, ACEP advised seeking independent counsel, but this was not heeded, leading to an expensive legal battle.
Boakye expressed frustration that the government's actions, deemed "laughable" by industry experts, resulted in unnecessary litigation costs.
Despite the tribunal's favorable ruling for Ghana, the oversight highlights a significant lapse in handling complex energy sector issues.
