The Minority members of Parliament’s Education Committee have revealed that the Ghanaian government owes over £17 million in tuition fees for 927 students studying in the UK under scholarship, covering 27 months.
Some universities have withdrawn support and canceled agreements with the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat due to unpaid fees.
Dr. Clement Apaak, Deputy Ranking Member of the Committee, urged the government to resolve the issue to avoid further embarrassment, noting that some students face deportation, and others have resorted to desperate measures, such as selling sperm or engaging in prostitution, to survive.
