Govt's stubbornness is cause of labor unrest - Akomea

Immediate former Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has posited that the only time the Mahama-led administration hearkens to the plight of public workers is when they embark on “endless” strikes.

According to him, amicable negotiations between workers and government have been unproductive for a number of times, so to most workers, the only option left for them is to agitate. He however described the incumbent government as “stubborn and very deaf”. Adding that, they are the cause of the strikes in recent times.

“Immediately workers go on strike, government will respond to them. Now everybody knows that this government is stubborn. If you don’t agitate or embark on a strike, you will not be heard and the examples are plenty. Even in parliament recently, the MP’s are complaining about some arrears but immediately they threatened a strike action, their arrears were paid.

“…Again, not too long ago, nurses also complained of their 21 months’ salary in arrears. Just after they have threatened to strike, within two weeks payment is ongoing, same as doctors and lecturers. The problem with this government is that if you don’t go on strike, they won’t even mind you…,” he said.

Speaking on Adom FM, Nana Akomea further opined that, the Mahama-led administration has failed to honour virtually all of their promises made to Ghanaians during their electoral campaign.

“I just want someone to organize an anti-tax crusade for me to willingly join…it’s painful how this nation is being governed by this current government,” he lamented.
