Govt subsidies on dialysis just political gimmicks, not sustainable – Akandoh

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member of Parliament's Health Committee, has raised concerns about the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Authority's (NHIA) plan to provide free dialysis sessions for kidney patients.

While patients under 18 and over 60 will receive all eight sessions per month for free until December 2024, Akandoh suggests the government should subsidize fees instead.

He questions the long-term viability of the initiative, calling for a more sustainable funding approach.

Akandoh criticizes the move as politically motivated, noting the lack of clarity on funding after the election period and the increased cost for patients.
