Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has criticized John Mahama for promising to cancel the close season if elected.
She expressed shock since Mahama's government introduced the legislation. The NPP implemented the close season to replenish dwindling fish stocks.
Hawa Koomson believed fishermen will oppose Mahama's attempt to lift the ban, as they have seen its benefits and are even requesting additional fishing bans on Tuesdays and Sundays.
She distributed food items to fisherfolk at Edina, including rice, oil, and canned fish, ahead of the close season. The beneficiaries were happy with the distribution.
