Ho, Aug. 18, GNA- Large numbers of teachers in the Volta Region are

seeking to leave for other regions due to lack of motivation such as accommodation and awards for hard-work.

Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Adanu, Officer in Charge of Higher Education of the Ghana Education Service in the Region gave the hint in an interview with the He said the situation called for urgent intervention by stakeholders to save education in the region.

Mr. Adanu who represented the Regional Director of Education said female teachers in particular were always on the heels of authorities for a release to other regions.

He said noted that though the regional office of the GES was doing its best to ensure quality teaching and learning, some districts were retarding those efforts.

He said for instance, some districts had not organized Best District Teacher Awards since 2004; an omission that was lowering morale among the staff.

Mr. Adanu said the regional directorate was still working hard to retain quality staffs in all educational institutions and called on teachers to exercise restrain while the directorate sorted things.

He said education remained the only 93Cocoa" for the region and urged stakeholders to play their roles diligently to protect it.
