The embattled Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dr Benjamin Agordzo, who has been accused of supporting a coup plot to destabilise the country, has been charged with abetment of treason.
The senior police officer, who is on a hunger strike in protest against his detention, has also been remanded into police custody at the ministries police station by the Kaneshie District Court.
He had earlier challenged the jurisdiction of the Kaneshie District Court on Friday, 8 November 2019, when the case was heard.
However, the court dismissed the application, remanded him and adjourned the case to 20 November 2019.
The court also directed ACP Dr Agordzo to stop speaking to the media.
Dr Agordzo is a serving police officer and a former Director of the Transformation Office of the Ghana Police Service.
He is alleged to have posted certain comments on a common WhatsApp platform created by the alleged coup plotters and to have also supported their cause with a cash donation of GHS2000.
Some nine other suspects, including a senior military officer, have also been charged with treason and are due to re-appear in court.
