Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Barbara Asher Ayisi has justified her decision to donate a cash amount of GHS10,000 to the Abura gym centre insisting the gesture was in support of a refurbishment of the center.
Videos of the Minister who doubles as a Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North constituency presenting the cash to the centre weeks ago went viral, as it was suggested that the move was essentially to pay macho men for their services ahead of the 2020 elections.
According to her, the donation was a redemption of a special promise made to the bodybuilding centre prior to the 2016 election for the purposes of renovating the facility.
“I don’t know why people are so angry about the cash I presented to my own constituency. I should rather be commended for redeeming my promise,” she told MyNewsGh.com.
She added that “I don’t know why the video came out. It could be NPP or NDC but I’m okay and don’t see anything wrong with it.”
Meanwhile, it is gathered that the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency is set to meet over the matter.
