Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea says he is “embarrassed as a politician”.
According to him, politicians in their quest for power make the electorate believe they can bring development to the country but rather make things worse when in government.
Nana Akomea was commenting on Ghana’s economic woes on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.
He said the “political class” has failed to deliver on their promises and have rather exacerbated the plight of Ghanaians.
“The condition of our people is repugnant. This is a country where we have people without legs riding on skateboards begging on the streets. I feel embarrassed as a politician because whether you like it or not, you are part of the political class which has failed to deliver,” he stressed.
Nana Akomea who is a former Director of Communications for the NPP described as shameful how ordinary citizens who can hardly make ends meet, yet struggle to pay their taxes but some selfish politicians squander the monies on luxurious things.
He noted that due to the insensitivity of politicians, a lot of people live in hopelessness; the poor is becoming poorer but added that the situation could have been different if politicians had lived up to expectation.
On the way forward for Ghana, he stated emphatically that “we need transformational leadership to move us out of the quagmire”.
The former Okaikoi South MP stated that until Ghana gets a leader with a vision, the people will continue to wallow in abject poverty.
He believes it is about time Ghanaians demand good leadership that will transform the country to change their lives for the better.
Nana Akomea said “things are getting worse” because there is retrogression in every sector of the economy and feared the situation could get out of hand if nothing is done to address it.
