John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his promise to legalise the operations of commercial motorbike riders, known as "Okada," if elected in the 2024 general elections.
Addressing motor riders in Ashaiman on May 31, 2024, Mahama criticised the current government's unfulfilled promise to replace motorbikes with cars.
He highlighted the increase in unemployment since 2016 and emphasised that legalising and regulating Okada would create jobs and improve safety.
Mahama assured riders that the NDC's 2024 manifesto includes Okada legalisation and urged compliance with future regulations for safety and licensing.
