The Attorney-General of Ghana, Godfred Dame, has denied claims of failing to settle a $134 million judgment debt imposed by a UK tribunal on Ghana.
Dame asserts that the responsibility for payment lies with the Finance Minister, not his office.
The debt arises from a breached power purchase agreement with Trafigura’s GPGC.
Despite partial payments, a US court has mandated Ghana to pay the remaining $111 million plus interest.
Criticism from former Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor suggests governmental mismanagement, with Donkor pledging an NDC administration would investigate such debts and possible corruption.
