Former Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2012 campaign, Nana Akomea says he is now a “footsoldier” of the party.
“I’m at the service of my party; if they offer me another opportunity and I feel I can do it, I will gladly accept,” he added..
Nana Akomea was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme shortly after confirming his resignation.
The news about Akomea’s resignation came as a shock to many, particularly those rooting for him to contest the General Secretary position of the NPP which is currently held by Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John.
They believe Akomea as spokesperson in 2012 discharged his duties judiciously and thus is better placed to be the party’s scribe.
But the former Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South says he is not interested in contesting for any position in the NPP.
According to him, his greatest desire is to see the NPP wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.
He said as a footsoldier, he would work assiduously to ensure the NPP wins election 2016.
In a message posted on his face book wall, Nana Akomea said "as for success, we missed our ultimate aim of winning the elections [in 2012]. But we surely put in our best in the face of the gargantuan resources available to our opponents".
The NPP man also disclosed that a lot of people have approached with several job offers and he is currently considering them.
He said with 16 years experience as MP and seven years as cabinet minister in the erstwhile John Kufuor administration, he had contributed his quota towards nation building.
Nana Akomea thanked his Deputy Communications Directors and party members for their support during his tenure.
